Amy is a jewelry artist, instructor and co-owner of Salt City Smithery, a teaching studio in Salt Lake City, Utah. Amy worked for many years in the fashion industry as a fit expert and designer. After taking her first jewelry fabrication class in 1993, her focus shifted to designing and creating jewelry.
Originally from New York, she was able to take advantage of an abundance of metalsmithing and jewelry-making classes in the area. After moving to Utah in 2007 and finding a scarcity in such workshops, she opened her own studio in 2013 and has been teaching metalsmithing classes ever since.
Amy’s favorite aspect of teaching is seeing the emergence and growth in students’ skills and confidence; honing the development of their design skills; and working together to troubleshoot and problem solve. Her entry in the 2020 Utah Design Craft Artists’ competition, “A Ring for a New Now” won first place and is now in the permanent collection of the Brigham City Museum of Art and History in Brigham City, Utah.
